Welcome:

It's our fourth year hosting the Liberty! Bicycles 8x12 Off-Road Series. Each year it has become more popular. If there was ever a time you thought you should take part in a fun, competitive, off-road race -- or even a Series of races -- then this is your moment, and your opportunity. This Series is for you. Whether you are a novice or an expert, whether young or not-so-young, you can participate. You can ride one event or all; It's your choice. Regardless, come out and enjoy. By participating you will strengthen your fitness and improve your riding technique. You can use the Series as a training ground for other events, or as a way to just blow off stress. And, no matter who or how or why, by entering this Series you will be helping support our local trail network so that cyclists like you can continue to have access to some of the best trails in Ontario. We hope you take part. Liberty! Bicycles is proud to be your host.

Event Status:
If the weather is bad, check libertybicycles.com for cancellation information. Notification will be posted no later than 3:00pm on event day.

NEW: SAFETY NOTICE
Please read before participating.

How it works:
There are two courses: One for kids and complete novices (7km easy) and another for adults and seasoned experts (15km technical). The short-course will start at 6:21pm, and the long-course will start at about 6:30pm. Try to show-up by 6:00pm. Each race begins with a short running start to help break-up the group; Participants then hop on their bikes and go for it. Yes, you need to do the run, but we can make exceptions for medical issues.
Participants will need to sign-up in advance. This can only be done at Liberty! Bicycles. If you want to save time, download an Entry Form and Waiver [PDF 40kb] and bring it with you to Liberty! Bicycles. There is no online registration available for this series. Deadline for registration is 6:00pm, Tuesday 12 May, or (for individual nights) 6:00pm, the Tuesday before the event. It is not possible to register on race-day.

Costs:
Participants have the option of registering for the whole series, or for individual events.
Full-Series Entry Fee (eight events) is $40 + GST. ($42.00) That's Five Dollars a night (plus tax).
Single Day Entry Fee (one event) is $9.52 + GST. ($10.00) Doing four events? Sign-up for the whole series....
Full-Series participants will each receive one, durable, season-long number plate for their bikes. Single-Day participants will get a  one-time-use number plate for their specific event.
Please note: The Liberty! Bicycles 8x12 Off-Road Series events take place weather permitting. Individual events will be cancelled if the conditions are not conducive to trail conservation. Regardless, entry fees are not refundable under any circumstances, cancellation or not.

The Details:
The Liberty! Bicycles 8x12 Off-Road Series is points-based. Participants will be released in a LeMans-type running start. First the short course, then the long. Each rider will be racing against the clock for points. The faster the finish time, the higher the points. Here is the points-formula for the long course: P=100[1/(24h(elapsed_time))]. And, here is the formula for the short course: P=20[1/(24h(elapsed_time))].  For example, a 30 minute finish on the long course yields 200 points, and a 30 minute finish on the short course would yield 40 points. Points will be tabulated and posted on this website. At the end of the series in August, overall points winners will be chosen, and awarded prizes within gender and age-group brackets. Note: Some novice riders have chosen to change from doing the short-course to participating in the long-course. From a points-perspective, there is no going back. Once you make the change, you will be considered a long-course rider from that event forward.

Where it Happens:
The Liberty! Bicycles Off-Road Series takes place entirely within the 12-Mile Creek Valley trail system. The start location is at the foot of the Burgoyne Bridge, next to the 12-Mile Creek. Please see this Map for Directions. We recommend parking in the lot at the corner of St.Paul Street [#81] and Westchester Ave, or even in the Lower Level Lot off of Mcguire Street. It is just a short ride over the 406 Foot-Bridge to the start of the event, and parking away from the start area will help keep the Start/Finish clear for Emergency Medical Services vehicles.

Award Ceremony and Ride:
The Award Ceremony will begin in Montebello Park, St.Catharines, at 6:30pm on Wednesday 26 August. A final 8x12 trail ride will follow the Award Presentation. The best five results from the series of eight events (best 5 of 8) will be used to determine placing. Awards will be distributed in these categories: Short-Course Men, Short-Course Women, Long-Course Men Overall, Long-Course Women Overall. We will also offer Long-Course Age-Group Awards: Men and Women 15 and Under, Men and Women 16 to 19, Men and Women 20 to 29, Men and Women 30 to 39, Men and Women 40 to 49, Men and Women 50 to 59, Men and Women 60 and Over. Please note: Overall Winners will not qualify for Age-Group Awards. This is the new Liberty! Bicycles award presentation structure, and it will be used in all our events.
